Observe July 26 as “Unity Day”: Geelani Urges facebook users to upload pro-freedom content

SRINAGAR:All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani has appealed for peaceful demonstration after Friday prayers against desecration of Holy Qur’an and fresh arrest spree and has asked people to observe July 26 as “Unity day” between Muslim population of Jammu and Kashmir and in memory of Gool Ramban martyrs.“It would help to show solidarity and foster brotherhood relation between Muslim communities of two regions,” Geelani said in a statement issued to GNS. He also urged facebook users to upload slogans conveying the world that people of Jammu and Kashmir province are up and they demand nothing less than freedom. The Hurriyat Chairman said that Indian policy makers are making efforts to portray that movement is confined to valley and Muslim population of Jammu province are indifferent to freedom movement.”These forces are hell-bent to create differences and wedge between the Muslim communities of two regions.”Syed Ali Geelani said that the Muslim population in Jammu region is at the mercy of Village Defence committees, communal elements and Indian occupant forces and the repressive treatment unleashed by administration has made their life hell.While commenting the recent Gool episode, Geelani said the kind of reaction after Gool tragedy has proved that spirit and passion of the people of Jammu towards Islam and freedom are not declined. “They will not opt for separate path and will stand with their brethren in valley when time for resolution of issue will be provided.”The Chairman while expressing grief has extended his heartfelt sympathy with those people injured in recent firing and urged immediate release of all those arrested. “Omar Abdullah while unleashing reign of terror against the people of Jammu and Kashmir has even surpassed records of both of his father and grandfather,” Geelani added.Meanwhile, in his meeting with Akali Dal Maan Punjab president Simran Jeet Singh, Hurriyat Chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani assured him that minorities have no threat from the majority in Kashmir.

According to Hurriyat spokesperson, Geelani said the biggest problem for Kashmiris is the forced occupation of India and it is also the responsibility of Sikh brethren to support the right to self determination of Kashmiris and raise their voice against oppression on their Muslim brethren.In a statement, the Akali Dal Maan president Simran Jeet Singh while supporting the right to self determination of Kashmiris said India is treating Sikhs and Muslims as second class citizens. He said the Sikhs in Pakistan are living with more honor and dignity than Sikhs in India.During the discussion, Geelani also deliberated on the historical background of Kashmir issue and human rights violations taking place in Kashmir, the spokesman said.The Akali Dal Maan leader presented a shawl to Syed Ali Geelani over his uncompromised stand and prayed for his long life, the spokesman added.
