Mehbooba Barred From Visiting Kishtwar

SRINAGAR: Terming the caging people and separatists as ‘adopted policy’ of current government opposition Peoples Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti Sunday said that she was prevented from leaving her residence to visit communal violence-hit Kishtwar district in Jammu region by authorities. As per a statement Mehbooba has claimed that the state government is acting as a mute spectator while the state affairs are run by police. Addressing a press conference at her Gupkar residence here, she said, “A police team has been deployed outside the main gate of my residence and we are not being allowed to leave the premises.” “I along with some other party colleagues wanted to visit Kishtwar town, which has been hit by communal violence since Eid on Friday. My cavalcade has been stopped from reaching there. Only my personnel security officer has been allowed to come in,” she said according to KNS. The PDP chief said that she feels mandatory to reach out the affected area “as the people there have expectations from her as being the leader of opposition.” “I have a duty towards the people of the state as I’m the leader of the opposition in the state assembly. Our visit to the area was with the aim of calming the frayed tempers. We are a responsible party,” she said. “NC is fears Congress while Congress fears people. Government is reacting to the voices of opposition and fails to act on its own to prevent situation going worse. State is run by police and not by the government. It is people versus police now and not people versus government,” Mehbooba claimed. She said that if government is aware as who is behind the communal disharmony, why it has failed to arrest them. “Failures of government has given sense of insecurity to people,” she said.
