Srinagar, 21 July: In Kashmir a youth, who suffered injuries, when clashes between protesters and government forces were going on in Noorbagh, says he was pushed by a police officer from the terrace. According to Sources , panic gripped in Palapora area of Noor Bagh in the summer capital when rumour about the death of an 18-year-old youth Jan Mohammad Khandey spread in the area. Hundreds of people came on roads and staged a massive protest against the government forces. Youth resorted to stone pelting on the deployed police and CRPF personnel and during the intermittent clashes, several people including policemen received injuries. In order to diffuse the situation a curfew was imposed in Noor Bagh and its adjoining areas. Jan, the injured youth, says he was pushed down by an officer of the Jammu and Kashmir police. “CRPF personnel did nothing but it was Chowki Officer Abdul Rashi who along with other policeman thrashed me mercilessly and pushed me down from the terrace. I can’t move as my spinal cord has got damaged. I was not part of a protest but was extracting sand from the river,” he says. Locals alleged that police wenbt berserk and pushed down Jan from the terrace of one storey house after a stone pelting incident. Jan was immediately shifted to SKIMS where his condition was said to be critical. Witnesses say after the stone pelting incident forces chased a group of youth who fled from the spot. “Police personnel caught hold of Jan and took him along. They interrogated him on the terrace of a house and kicked him mercilessly,” he says. Locals says Jan was extracting sand from the river as he was working as a labour for his cousin who plies a tipper. Jan’s family also accuses the police officer of pushing him down. “It is Chowki Officer Palapora who is responsible for all this,” his mother says.
