Jammu: The Muslims majority areas of Jammu Division observed a complete shutdown against the desecration of Holy Quran and subsequent killing of innocent Muslims in BSF firing in Gool Town of Ramban district on Thursday. Muslim Federation Jammu had called for a one day strike against the blood bath in Ramban. After Friday prayers massive protests were reported from Gujar Nagar, Ustad Mohalla, Talab Khati, Bhaderwah, Banihal, Thathri, Kishtwar, Gool, Doda, Sangaldan areas of Jammu region.Reports said that all the shops in Muslim dominated areas of Jammu Division remained closed while people tied black ribbons on their arms as a mark of protest against the Ramban incident. Ramban district reeled under curfew and people were even not allowed to offer Friday prayers in Masjids.Heavy contingent of police and Para-military troopers were deployed in different areas of Jammu Division including Sangaldan area of Ramban. Amid strict restrictions, people soon before and after Friday prayers came on roads and raised anti-India slogans. However, all the protest marches reported from Jammu Division remained peaceful. The protestors burnt down tyres at different places as a mark of protest and used public address system to condemn the events in Gool town of Ramban.People observed complete shutdown and demanded stern action against the BSF personnel responsible for the killing of innocent people and desecration of Holy Quran.Authorities sealed a large portion of Srinagar-Jammu Highway to thwart any kind of protest while the Amarnath pilgrims were directed to stay in camps located in Jammu. Not a single batch of Amarnath Yatri’s were allowed to proceed towards Srinagar city.When contacted Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Rajesh Kumar told CNS that people staged protest at various places, however they ended up peacefully. “Situation is under control and normal,” he said adding that barring few areas life in Jammu Division is normal.
